Easy Steps to Fix Rainbow Six Lag

The popular latest edition to the Tom Clancy series, Rainbow Six Siege is a fun and unique take on the genre. These issues are particularly frustrating in a game like Rainbow Six Siege, where quick response times are the key to completing the fast-paced missions. Fortunately, with a few tweaks to your computer, game settings and network optimization, you'll be victorious in this tactical shooter.

How to Fix Rainbow Six Siege Lag

Computer and Drivers

Despite being released in 2015, Rainbow Six Siege needs fairly good processing-power. Make sure the computer you're playing on at least meets the minimum system requirements. It is best if you have at least an Intel i5-2500K, 3.3 GH processor, 8GB RAM and a 2GB graphics card or better. While the minimum RAM suggested is only 6GB, running with 8GB or more is ideal.

To get the best gaming performance out of your graphics card, always keep your drivers up to date. You can download the latest driver update directly from AMD or Nvidia. Since games require so many resources, it's a good idea to minimize the number of background applications you have running by closing unnecessary programs from the task manager.

Game Settings

Adjusting graphics settings is also a sure-fire way to improve performance. Just start the game, visit the Graphics section of the Options menu and apply the following custom settings:

  • Texture Quality can be set to either Medium or Low
  • Texture Filtering should be set to Linear
  • LOD Quality, Shadow Quality, Shading Quality and Reflection Quality are unnecessary options than can be set to Low to improve performance
  • Ambient Occlusion, Lens Effects, Zoom-In Depth of Field, Multisample Anti-Aliasing and Post-Process Anti-Aliasing can all be set to Off
Network Performance

Network performance issues are often the cause of Rainbow Six Siege high ping. While you may not be able to optimize the game servers, you aren't entirely out of options when determining how to fix high ping in Rainbow Six Siege. Firstly, make sure you are using an Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi and reduce any background bandwidth usage such as streaming, voice programs and large file downloads. You should also make sure you're using the default datacenter setting in your My Documents game settings file.

Improve your network performance while playing Rainbow Six Siege with Outfox, an optimized gaming network.

For more control over your network connections, use Outfox's Optimized Gaming Network while playing Rainbow Six Siege. The Outfox UI shows a real-time report of your ping and helps you achieve better performance. Choose the Fastest Server setting to make sure you're always using the best connection available. Outfox works by routing your game traffic through our fast, global network and bypassing normally unavoidable network congestion and poor routing decisions by your ISP.

Performance-focused game settings and optimized networking will help you up your game in Rainbow Six Siege. Don't let low FPS and high ping keep you from your mission!
